Biography

Dr. Mustapha Bello Chemical Engineer | Researcher | Educator | Global Leader Dr. Mustapha Bello is a distinguished scholar whose academic and professional journey reflects a steadfast commitment to scientific innovation, leadership, and global engagement. Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, Dr. Bello earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Lagos and a Master of Science in Reservoir and Geoscience Engineering from the Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP School), France. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Global Leadership, a Master of Science (M.S.) in Leadership and Human Resource Development (LHRD), and a Graduate Certificate in Future Faculty Readiness from Louisiana State University (LSU). His doctoral research focused on the electroreduction of carbon monoxide using copper catalysts in a zero-gap electrolyzer, advancing sustainable energy technologies that address global challenges related to climate change and carbon utilization. Dr. Bello’s professional experience spans eight countries across multiple disciplines, including petroleum engineering and cancer research. His international exposure has enriched his multidisciplinary expertise and strengthened his capacity for cross-cultural collaboration and innovation. During his tenure at LSU, Dr. Bello served as President of the African Graduate Student Association (AGSA) for two consecutive terms. Under his leadership, the association expanded its academic and cultural initiatives, fostering inclusion, collaboration, and global citizenship among graduate students. A dedicated educator, Dr. Bello has taught multiple chemical engineering courses and mentored over one hundred students, emphasizing intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and professional growth. His teaching philosophy integrates research-driven instruction with leadership development, preparing students to become innovative engineers and ethical leaders. Dr. Bello’s academic excellence and service have been recognized through numerous honors, including the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) Fellowship, membership in Phi Kappa Phi, selection to the Electrochemical Society (ECS) Education Committee, and the LSU Global Leadership Award.
